Casey is a city in Adair and Guthrie Counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 478 at the 2000 census.

The Guthrie County portion of Casey is part of the Des MoinesWest Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ironically, considering the company's Iowa roots and the town's population and proximity to Interstate 80, there is no Casey's in Casey, but there is a Kum and Go. Go figure.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 478 people, 203 households, and 129 families residing in the city. The population density was 649.0 people per square mile (249.4/km2). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 306.8 per square mile (117.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.54% White, 0.84% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.72% of the population.

There were 203 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $40,000. Males had a median income of $27,917 versus $24,167 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,189. About 7.4% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.3% of those under age 18 and 5.7% of those age 65 or over.
